Guest Post....Ashley from Perk! Pilates Fitness

Recently after my barre class, I decided that I could no longer wear my Forever21 workout leggings. They were uncomfortable and constantly falling down. I asked my one of my closest friends and pilates/barre instructor, Ashley, if she could recommend some reasonable workout wear. And she had a lot to say on the matter and at that moment I decided perhaps there are others who would like some advice on the best places to buy workout garb. So I am thrilled that today, Ashley is guest posting. She has some great advice! She is not only an instructor but also the owner of Perk! Pilates Fitness in Fort Collins, Colorado. She is pretty terrific. Based on Ashley's advice, I got the Old Navy compression capris & leggings and they are SO much better. There was a sale as there always is at Old Navy so I paid less than $20 a piece!

As a person who lives in fitness gear, I am thrilled to share my thoughts on workout apparel. January allows us to welcome a new year where we carefully ponder over resolutions and goal setting. Whether you are planning to take a new exercise class or strategically organizing a running/cycling/triathlon race schedule, the best motivator can, sometimes, be NEW GEAR!

I am one to chase a deal but I do believe in splurging on some items. Here's a list of retailers in a spend versus saving breakdown:

Where/what to spend:

Workout Pants:

This is one area where I believe is worth splurging on a staple item in your workout wardrobe. A good pair of black pants/leggings/tights goes a long way. My favorites:

lululemon athletica groove pant, groove crop, wunder under crop and leggings

Athleta Revelation Pants

Splits 59 Raquel
Splits 59 Acey Fitness Pants

Athleta Odyssey Chaturanga Yoga Knicker
The prices are a bit steep but you will look amazing! Seriously, the fabrics and quality of these pants will make your backside do all the right things!

Additional retailers that I LOVE that fall under this category are:

~ All of these retailers have wonderful tops, pants and casual wear. They are great quality and hold up to wear and tear.

Where/What to save
The Deals!

There are so many resources for affordable workout wear and here's the breakdown:

Old Navy: they have produced a wonderful Activewear line the is rivaling some of the more expensive competitors. They are using compression fabrics, current designs and colors that look fantastic for a fraction of the price. I love their compression capris and sports bras. To see more click here

Target/Walmart: Target is a staple and Walmart carries a Danskin line that has some good pieces. I like their loose fitting pants and t-shirts.

H&M - have just released an acitve wear collection. The pieces are trending toward the current fashion of workout apparel and i recommend going for less expensive retailers when purchasing a trendy piece of workout clothing. I think H&M is a great resource for this situation. Click here to view the new line.

FitFrosting - an online retailer that launches January 15. Think of it an a virtual warehouse sale of fitness apparel.http://www.fitfrosting.com

PV Body If you like the idea of having a retailer/personal stylist shop for you ,check this service out! For around $50/month you receive a workout outfit every month from an assortment of retailers. The site conducts a survey of styles, cuts and colors you prefer to narrow down the best gear for your body type. I like this idea and am going to sign-up and see how the process goes - I will keep you posted! http://www.pvbody.com

My best advice regarding all the suggested listings is find what style works for YOU! Be it a halter neck or racerback top or crop tights or full length,  find the best fit and rock it out. Workout wear should flaunt your best assets and hide problem areas. Try out different styles and cuts. Visit in store or many of the online retailers offer free shipping and easy return policies.

Happy shopping! Be fierce and fabulous in not only your workouts, but ALL that you do!

  3. Wow! This is great! Even I bought workout pattern leggings for the gym. I bought a patterned one because my trainer advised it, she says it will help you feel more confident in the gym by letting you know that nobody is looking at the shape of your body moreover, they will look amazing.
