Dressing Table Complete!

I think it has been close to a year since  I picked  up this table at a friend's yard sale. I blogged about it first here last September. I went back and forth on what color to paint it and  this spring decided on Youthful Coral from Home Depot. 

So a few weekend ago, Michael agreed to help me with the project. Since this table was  for our bedroom, I wasn't sure he would be happy about Youthful Coral as the color selection so I never really disclosed that detail. I really wanted a color in the orange/red/pink family in our bedroom to break up all the brown and blue and it took me a  while to decide. (Side note...in the swatch above Youthful Coral looks very pink but in the swatch from the store it looked more orange.) Anyway, we loaded up the whole family and headed to Home Depot. On the way, the color choice came up and as suspected Michael wasn't thrilled. So not to bore you with anymore details, we ended up with Quiet Moment as the color.

When I first purchased the table, the top was off and it had a musty smell. So I washed it really well, sprayed with Lysol and put baking soda in the drawers. And it sat like that for months in my  house.

 

So when the project was resurrected from the abandoned  project list a few  weeks ago,  we first needed to fill the wholes in the top with wood filler. We used JB Weld Company KwikWood Epoxy Putty.

After the wood filler dried, we sanded really well to make smooth.

Then we primed using Kilz Original spray paint. One can was exactly the right amount.

After the primer, Michael screwed the top to the base of the  table. Then we painted two coats of the Quiet Moment. I wanted some fun knobs since I didn't get the Youthful Coral. So I went with the Caricature Knob from Anthropologie which was a little bit of a splurge for me but I only need two.

I am pleased with the end result. As a recap here is the before...

I am still working on the stool. I got this stool for FREE from a family friend's house. It is the perfect size and I would like to recover in this  fabric that I already have from Garden Ridge.

I got one quote for $200 to cover the top and make a skirt. I just couldn't rationalize that. I would really like to be  able to do it myself but it may be more than my skill set will allow. I have done a little research online so hopefully I will figure something out. If you have suggestions, I would love them!
