Favorite RVA Holiday Events

I have always loved the holidays but having kids has made them even more fun. At 6 and 8, my kids are so excited about Christmas and all the fun events surrounding it. Here are some of our favorite activities.

This is a fun outing but bundle up because you are mostly outdoors. Tons of cool lighting displays all over the Lewis Ginter property.
This picture is from 2009...the year Clyde was born.

A few years later, we let him come too!

This is where Michael and I got engaged...December 2003. One of his parent's friends worked downtown and they had a roof top patio where you could see all the lights...we got engaged on the patio!

Picture from the night we got engaged!
We haven't been back since but I think it would be fun to take our kids.

Richmond Ballet's The Nutcracker
I haven't been to this since I was child. This year my mom is taking my sister, Kate, her kids and Camille, Clyde and me. I am so excited to see it. Camille and I saw Richmond Ballet's Cinderella a few years ago and she really enjoyed it! Hoping she will love this too.

Your Own Tacky Light Tour
At least once during the holidays, we go out to dinner with the kids and then drive by some of our favorite tacky light houses. I remember going to the one on Asbury Court growing up. It is the best!

You can plan your own tour here, but our favorites are Asbury Court,  River Road, Thousand Oaks, and Venetian Way.

I must confess that we don't see Santa every year. We got out of the habit because Camille and Clyde were so afraid when they were young. We always mail him a letter. Someone recently told me Tom Leonard's had a great Santa you could visit and have your picture taken with. We may check that out this year.

This year, I decided to add to the Christmas excited and make a Pinterest inspired Advent calendar for the kids.  I bought the labels, bags and paperclips at Michael's. Then inside I put stickers, gum, tattoos, candy, trading cards, lip gloss, lollipops. It has been fun so far to open every morning at breakfast.

What are your favorite RVA Holiday Events? Legendary Santa? Tree Lighting at the Jefferson?

  1. Heart throbbing!! I have heard a lot about this venue. My friend describes it as a magical place to have fun. Usually we go to corporate events San Francisco venues to plan our holiday party but I think this time I should give it a switch.
